Guests generally describe Key Lime Sailing Club as a hidden gem offering a laid-back, nautically focused getaway on the Gulf. While praise is directed toward the friendly staff, beachfront location, and ample water sports equipment, a single 1-star review vehemently denounces the property as rundown, dirty, and in disrepair, with significant issues regarding signage and poor accommodations.
Perhaps it was just my wife and I - but it would appear something has gone horribly wrong here. We exited as quickly as we could after a 4 hour drive to get there. Staying only only one grim night of the two we had bought and paid for; and had no hope of refund for. Left some 300 + dollars behind just to move on as soon as we could. Never done that before... To begin with - there was zero signage on RT 1 South where they are located. Zero. We did three difficult highway about faces and had to call to determine where they might possibly be after a long day on the road. Jenn (the only reason for any 'stars' beyond zero) answered and went up to the road side to flag us in. Her guidance included the advice to look for a orange pick-up truck with a boat on a trailer as an indication as to where to pull in when headed south. Sure enuff - that was reasonably true. And along with that dead truck and trailer were literally dozens of other derelict vehicles and boats and substantial other debris/trash that the owner (perhaps his name is Paul) had evidently hoarded over the decades he appears to have been running this place into the ground. You get to drive through the midst of it all to get into what might be called the "resort". My spouse and I a mere 70 - but we have never, ever seen anything like it. Our room was called "Wyoming" and had a ceiling height of perhaps 7 feet. Dark and dirty throughout - with the sole windows facing a picket fence a couple feet away. Tiny, grimy outdoor area with nothing to draw one there. The whole place was quite something. Right down the sink - that sported multiple cracks - in the bathroom that doubled kinda as a shower. I could go on and on but you get the drift. Again: this mistake cost us over 700$. Their emails when I booked the reservation made it painfully clear that refunds were not going to happen at this point. I am a boat captain by trade and the sailing vessels they had for rent looked sketchy - but I did not want to go aboard nor get very close. One of the two little piers was an accident looking to happen for sure. Basically falling none too slowly into the bay. If Florida was paying any attention they would shut this place down el pronto before someone gets hurt or sick. To pass this off as "old Florida" is a serious insult to what used to be in this state. My earliest experiences in Florida were in the sixties - so I have some recollections still - and they are indeed fond ones. This is just a sadly rundown property that has lazily disregarded the concept of maintenance and bringing any degree of customer satisfaction. They sent me an email asking me to share my 'Key Lime Sailing Club Memories' so this is what comes of it. Sorry to be so harsh - I/we have never been so harsh before - but this was a first for us in several ways. I wish you all well in your travels. David
AHHHHHMMAAAZZZIINGG!! Stayed at the Key Lime Sailing Club and Cottages with 4 girlfriends for a birthday trip and we can not say enough great things about it. There is plenty to do on the property and it's surroundings that we didn't feel the need to go anywhere else. We spent the days sailing, swimming around, enjoying the sunsets, grabbing drinks at the nearby restaurants and bars and relaxing. Each cottage comes with a small sailboat and the captain meets up to give you a run down of where you can go. I'm newer to sailing but felt comfortable taking my friends out on their 25' boat. Jenn took care of every need we had and beyond. We appreciated her so so much and she was a big part of why we loved our stay. If you love the water and want a relaxed laid back vibe this is it. Will definbitely be sharing with friends from my sailing club and look forward to returning.
Key Lime Sailing is the perfect getaway for sailors. The facilities are rustic, but they are clean, and everything works. The staff is friendly and attentive. The location is central but quiet, and the beach and the sailing are wonderful!
I stayed at Key Lime Cottages for 5 days in Jan 2026 as part of a sailing course + vacation. Great staff, cute & clean room with decently stocked kitchenette, limited but adequate parking. Each room came with a boat w/all safety equipment and outboard. I never got out solo due to weather restrictions - the dockmaster is safety-first. I did get on the water for the sailing course and had a fine time. The captains/instructors were experts and great teachers. The cottages are easy walking distance to some restaurants, stores, laundromat. Easy drive to supermarket & attractions. I had a fun visit and expect to return for future vacations.
This place is pure magic. Waterfront, sunsets, water sports. What more do you want? They have it. It is a super chill vibe. No loud music. Just mellow waves and the hum of a few Bluetooth speakers from fellow guests on their respective porches that you’ll only hear if you want to. Our house was so spotless, we could have eaten off the floor. The kitchen was fully stocked to make any meal you want for a week. Coffee maker = check. Filters = check. Beach towels= check. Fluffy bath towels equivalent to a st Regis= check. The set up allows you to engage with the staff and other guests as little or as much as you want. Walking distance to a ton of restaurants. Instacart is available and the stores are very close by for provisions. We stayed in the captains cottage, the 37’ catamaran and the jungle room. We toured the owners cottage and it was amazing. Jen is a master, navigating the entire property with ease, live and diligence to make the magic happen seamlessly. The whole team is eager to make your stay memorable. Celebrating a special occasion? Tell them, they’ll add to your magic. The equipment was well loved but we had no issues and witnessed none from other guests during our stay. We cannot wait to come back soon!!! This is a one of a kind, don’t miss experience!!!
A very accommodating facility. Right on the Gulf. Everything from bicycles to water boards to sailboats right on us 1. Mainland to the north and keys to your south. I recommend you stay here. Come once, bet you will come back again. I did. Do and again this year will go back.
Had a great week at Key Lime Sailing working on my sailing skills and staying on site. My instructor John was awesome and the entire staff (especially Jenn and Chuck) where extremely helpful for the entire week. Highly recommend!
Had the most amazing time with the most amazing staff all of the crew working the facility in the boat were phenomenal my girlfriend's birthday trip was amazing for us thank you to all the staff. Jen, Paul, Mario, Chuck, Chris, plus a few more. The place is so quiet and relaxing you don't even want to go anywhere else or do anything else but hit the water go snorkeling sailing kayaking and swimming 10 stars out of five.
This was an amazing trip. It is the first vacation I have taken in ten years. I pride myself with customer service in my business and I can assure you, customer service is top notch at the Key Lime Sailing Club. Beautiful sunsets in a genuine keys atmosphere. Mrs. Macs kitchen has some good home cooking a minutes walk away from your cottage and Tower of pizza has some of the best pizza in the keys. If you are looking for a secluded place to relax, look no further.
The location was amazing. My kids loved using the paddle boards, snorkel equipment, and fishing rods. We caught fish right off the dock, saw a variety of fish while snorkeling , and enjoyed some beautiful sunsets. The staff were all very friendly- Jenn was amazing and provided top notch service whenever we needed something or had questions. Only down side was our cottage did not have dishwasher , and the kids complained the beds were not comfortable but otherwise we had an amazing vacation.
