Banana Bay Resort Marathon presents a polarized experience, with many recent guests reporting severe unsanitary conditions and poor management, while others praise the spacious rooms and accessible location. Despite a handful of positive reports mentioning comfortable beds and friendly service, the property is frequently described as a misrepresented motel rather than a resort.
We spent 40 minutes listing to ai when we booked. It said beach, bar, entertainment and clean rooms. We got to Banana Bay and the front desk told us the restaurant was a couple years gone and ai had not cought up yet. Asked about the beach she didn't know about that either. Wife not happy. We got the the room and it smelled very moldy. We went out to the truck and came back to see a couple roaches in the bed and left. The web, ai and the front desk are all untruthful. when we went to leave we had to wait behind another unhappy person. I would not recommend this place..
Good value hotel, we arrived on a Sunday for an overnight stop. Rooms great, staff very helpful and pleasant, and Carmen was excellent in her Service at Breakfast on our early departure. The only downside I can think of was the beachside bar hours were very limited.
Wonderful stay. The rooms were beautiful and clean and comfortable. The staff were very helpful and plenty of food choices either side of the hotel. Carmen was so helpful with our cycling group getting coffee before our 50 mile ride ahead of us.
WiFi is non existent. You’re charged a resort fee and a parking fee which is a joke. It’s not a resort. We ended up going somewhere for breakfast every morning as the breakfast offered was dismal. Water pressure was also non existent. They say the room we stayed in 326 is a marina/water view we had a huge tree blocking the view so we had a tree view. The room is large, there’s an ice bucket but no ice machine. Also our reservation said you were given 2 bottles of water a day, there was none of that either. Would we recommend or book again, absolutely not.
HONEST REVIEW To start, this is not a resort. More like a motel. They have cockroaches! The rooms are updated, and look clean but we saw numerous cockroaches both in our room and on the counter by the ice machine. The beds are pretty terrible and uncomfortable. The "gourmet breakfast" consisted of pre frozen Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches, plain Greek yogurt that tasted like sour cream, and cereal cups. That's it? Every day for the 5 days I was there, it was the same sad breakfast. The pool and hot tub were nice and warm, but not very clean. It was also extremely frustrating to learn that the pool and hot tub close at dark which was 6:30 during our trip, when the website said 8. We didn't get to use it like we would have because we were out enjoying the island while the sun was up. Who doesn't want to use the pool and hot tub after a long day? Another frustration was that the tennis and pickleball courts were not lit up either, so they couldn't be used after dark or in the evening when it's cool enough to play. The grounds are in poor repair and definitely need maintenance and cleaning. At checkout, they over charged me by $200. I had prepaid and they tried to say it was fees and taxes that aren't included when I booked on their website. They did give me a refund after I showed them my prepaid invoice that stated that it included taxes and fees, but how many people have they ripped off? Now for the positive. The front desk girls were all very sweet and helpful. The house keeping crew did a great job at providing fresh towels and tidying the room. I really wish that I had more positive feedback. Especially with how nice the website makes the place looks. I don't think I'll be ever coming back unfortunately.
We stayed for a fishing tournament and we had the pleasure of staying here. The rooms were nice and cold. We actually needed more blankets and they were able to give us more. We had a wonderful time with family!
I recently stayed here during our Christmas vacation. The pictures online and the listed amenities lead me to believe we would have a great time. We arrived early and were told to come back closer to 4 for check in. Upon check-in there was one person servicing everyone with a full lobby and the phone ringing off the hook. The lovely young lady behind the counter was doing a great job. She quickly checked us in and shared the map with us, noting the hours of the pool area and the bar. You can tell the rooms were recently updated and clean. The beds were not the most comfortable. There was no ice machine in our building, but a quick walk up to the first building fixed that. We were disappointed in the pool area and hot tub. We were told the pool area was open 7am-8pm, but while in the pool we were told by someone who did not identify himself as a hotel employee that the pool closed at dark. The hot tub was freezing and not in working condition. The grounds need some work, didn't appear to be well maintained. The bar area was cute and they are trying with nightly karaoke, but their selection of drinks was disappointing and $4 for a bottle of luke warm water left a lot to be desired. I believe this to be a recent purchase and they are trying to make changes while still hosting guests. My recommendation is to get better lighting around the pool area, fix the hot tub, and get a bartender for the pool bar (HUGE MISSED OPPORTUNITY HERE) People spend all day on the water in this area and want to relax in the pool later in the day and have a drink. Breakfast was a bare minimum effort of cereal, yogurt and microwave sandwiches. I also don't think charging someone a resort fee and parking for this location is warranted. This is not a resort in my opinion, but has lots of potential. The manager did apologize for the pool area situation and made it right with us. I hope they continue to improve the property as they are in a great location for the area.
Upon checking in, was told there is an $18/day parking fee. Do they expect people to walk there? Why charge for parking? Also the rooms weren’t bad but the room service was. Came back from Key West and only one bed was made, didn’t refill the coffee and left towels and trash bags (not ours) outside our door. We went to the front desk to ask them to pick it up, next morning it was all still there. 2 maintenance people walked by us and nothing. Breakfast was a huge joke. Heat yourself Jimmy Dean sandwiches, black bananas, and dry cereal. No milk for the cereal. I wouldn’t stay here again if my life depended on it. Please spend your money elsewhere. Super 8 would’ve been better.
My husband and I booked through Priceline. First thing I always look for is whether or not there is a fitness center. There isn’t one, but it was listed as having one. Big disappointment for me. At check-in, we were told there would be an $18 per day parking fee and a $50 incidental fee that would be refunded upon checkout. Needless to say, my card was overcharged and I had to call several times to get it fixed. Overall the room was clean, but housekeeping left long strands of hair all over the bed when they came in to make it. Had to let the water run at least ten to fifteen minutes for a lukewarm shower. We called the front desk but maintenance never showed. We also called the front desk for an ironing board, but that didn’t come until we ran into the maintenance guy on our way out for the day. The grounds were unkempt. The tennis courts had debris all over them. Breakfast was premade sandwiches and bagels. The best part of our stay was the kindness from the staff at the front desk. The pictures on the website don’t seem to match the actual establishment, and I say establishment because I wouldn’t rate this as a resort. I wouldn’t recommend in good faith without there being some improvements overall.
Our room was spacious, clean and quiet. Decent location and friendly staff. I gave an overall 3 star because you are charged an $18 parking fee on top of a $35 resort fee. Parking can be difficult, as its gravel along the fence with no set spaces. My truck barely fit, and was even sticking out in the road a little bit on our second night. I expected better parking for $18 per night. The resort fee includes breakfast but don't get excited because its just pre-made breakfast sandwiches. You can get better breakfasts for cheaper going eat somewhere else.
