Captain Pip's is highly praised for its old-time Florida charm, unique waterfront location near the Seven Mile Bridge, and excellent staff. Guests consistently rate the accommodations, cleanliness, and helpfulness highly, though a recent surge in 1-star reviews highlights significant issues with a specific floating cabin's stability and maintenance.
What a great experience. The room was comfortable and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We were on vacation and celebrating a special occasion - the staff made our moment feel extra special as they celebrated with us. Can not recommend Captain Pip's enough; we would absolutely go back. The sunset cruise was phenomenal. We took advantage of the included kayaks and bicycles which really added to the experience; it really made exploring the area more of an adventure. Kaitlyn in the main building was nothing but friendly and helpful. 5 out of 5.
Captain Pip's can't be beat for room comfort and convenience of location. The Swordfish room was well appointed with everything we needed for our stay and staff was friendly and helpful. There are snorkel tours, boat rentals, a Starbucks (way overpriced but very convenient), and a restaurant right on sight. There are also several other restaurants and a convenience store in walking distance.
If you are looking for a Hilton or Marriott this place is not for you. If you're looking for a taste of Old Time Florida, which we were, this place IS for you! Second time staying here. Last week with the girls this week with husband. ENJOY the MARLIN (staying in a different cottage tonight) with view of water, pool to the left. Small elevated area to walk along the water, Back right up to your cottage door to unload suitcases and such. Added bonus for us! Marlin has a King bed in one nice size bedroom and Murphy bed in living room both have very nice mattresses. Sheets are clean and spot free. Clean blankets. We did ask for some flat sheets to cover the furniture, which is a little worn and not the cleanest. Pips accommodated this request with no problems. Sleeps 4-6 with lots of room. If weather is cool, like it is right now, they will provide small heaters for the rooms. Sufficiently took the chill out of the air. Sofa is also a pull out bed which we did not use. Large tiled shower in nice size bathroom. Plenty of closet space. Full size refrigerator and stove. Brand new drip coffee machine, coffee, sugar and dry creamer for a few days and large sink area. Does have some pots which we did not use. Service for four, dishes, glasses, utensils, etc. I'm sure if you needed more, they would accommodate you. Porkey's Restaurant steps away that also serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Just do not order the lobster bisque or crab cake! They're specialty is supposed to be barbecued pork. 7 mile Grill, next door (right next to miniature golf) and walkable has delicious home made food. Starbucks on property. Small convenience store with T-shirts, booze, etc., in Office. Love staying here, perfect location at base of 7 mile bridge , quiet this time of year, late January. Show kindness and respect, and it will be returned to you! Love the staff with that comfy old time feel! Looking forward to a return stay next year.
The rooms are nicely furnished and the linens/beds are comfortable. They offer bikes and kayaks at no charge if you stay overnight. The management seems willing to do whatever is needed to make your stay enjoyable. The only downside is that you can hear the other rooms even when they speak quietly. We would stay again.
Wow — this is a very atmospheric and charming place, at least that’s how it felt to us. Beautiful marina views, stunning sunsets, an outdoor grill, and comfortable seating areas where you can relax and enjoy the evening. There is a great restaurant right next door with very tasty and reasonably priced food, and breakfast options are also available. Our cottage was the last one, located close to the pool, which was very convenient. Parking is free, and you can use kayaks or bicycles at no extra cost. The Seven Mile Bridge is very close as well. A small tip: skip the trolley and just walk across the bridge toward the island (which you don’t even need to visit). From the bridge, you can even spot stingrays in the water. We didn’t notice any downsides during our six-night stay. Everything was clean, beautiful, and comfortable, and we truly had a very relaxing time. The mattresses in our room were not perfect, but that was a very minor detail and didn’t affect our stay. I would also like to especially mention Kira from housekeeping — she made our stay even better, more pleasant, and exceptionally clean. Thank you!
It was a great experience to stay here at Captain pips Marina and Hideaway. We enjoyed here with my family. Awesome location . I stayed for a day as it was peak time in Marathon . I would love to stay again . The check-in during night time was awesome . Also service was so nice .
We went out on a snorkel adventure with captain Patrick and Cory. They were professional but fun and made everyone feel comfortable. I felt safe in their care. We saw beautiful fish at the snorkeling site, it was a great afternoon!
Be AWARE! The “Cottage” is a floating Cabin. It constantly rocks, has a marine toilet and is only secured on ONE SIDE. I reserved this CABIN several months ago and was told one week before my trip that i booked a “houseboat”. NO WHERE on the website is this vessel described at a boat. When they called, they did not offer to move me to another area but instead assured me that the boat was stable, attached to a dock on 3 sides and had all the amenities of a hotel room with more space and a kitchenette. I explained my husband has multiple health issues and has difficulty walking as he is very unsteady on his feet. I was again assured it would be fine. They made a point to tell me my reservation is not refundable. I argued it was false advertising. When we arrived, all the assurances they made were false. This is an “Aqua Lodge” tethered on one side, constantly moving and rocking in a small inlet with a few very large boats and a few smaller ones that come and go causing the lodge to rock ALL THE TIME. There was quite a large step over to the lodge and depending on the tide, was sometimes very far down in the water. We were provided NO information about the lodge, the heating or cooling system or TV. Come to find out the TV requires you to bring your own app and log into their tv; no local stations which was a concern with the government shutdown and FL weather. The heat/air system runs by remote which had dead batteries. The area was experiencing heavy winds so the front desk offered to let us sleep in a different unit for a night or two but keep all of our stuff in the lodge; it was on the 2nd floor which my husband cannot do. Also, they stated on the website they have an onsite pool and restaurant. The restaurant, as it turns out, is adjacent to the property but not in any way affiliated. The pool requires a cross country walk though other peoples vacation property. Our unit smelled so bad after a few days due to the marine toilet and warm temp. We complained they reluctantly came and had it pumped out. Our unit had bugs constantly which we reported but was never addressed. (yes, i know it is on the water but they should have had a plan for that). We also reported a leaking, constantly dripping faucet and broken toilet seat which were never addressed. The office is literally only open from 7 AM to 11 AM. If you have a problem you better know about it early. They beds were comfortable but up very high. The kitchen was well stocked. The sofa was falling apart. Overall, we would 100% NOT recommend this place. Following week: I would be happy to call discuss it. Please let me know who to call and the contact phone number. I have already talked to the girls in the office and i am not sure that is who i need. Also, the office hours were 7 to 11 AM not 4 pm. 2 weeks out: I called the office, the girl did not know what i was referring to and i still have not received a call or response telling me who to contact.
We stayed in the Marlin room and it was fantastic. Clean, tidy and very spacious. Huge comfortable bed with a lounge and diner. The views from the dining area looked over the harbour and there was a back door leading onto a lovely seating area. Don't be deceived by the exterior, it's a fantastic location and excellent rooms. Highly recommended, excellent value for money.
Cute set up! Love the beach feel the lodging has. Lots of room to spread out! Glad to have a kitchen to cook in, a nice living room and dining room area. The bed is comfortable to sleep on, shower has great pressure! The "backyard" literally out the back door affords us a view of the ocean. We have loungers, a hammock and a grill as well as access to the ocean. Fun, and quirky! Wish we had inside washer and dryer, other then that, they have everything you need!
