Skipjack Resort & Marina receives mixed reviews, with many praising its location, friendly staff, and pleasant atmosphere. However, concerns regarding cleanliness, particularly regarding floors and dusty rooms, as well as issues with pool heating and inconsistent service, are frequently mentioned. Recent renovations have improved some aspects of the property, but persistent problems remain.
Food was great. Bar had awesome drinks. Pool was clean. Amy was amazing. So happy and her customer service was the best! Photos online made it look more updated than it was, but it was still a great stay. Ladies making breakfast every morning were so sweet. You do need some type of signage to let guests know what to do. Everyone comes in confused and do not know to ask for eggs and bacon. We let people know almost everyday! Lots of dust in the room as well and A/C was super humid in the living room so we just closed the door at night to our room to keep it cooler. Maintenance guy came and fixed the hot water heater and low flowing water. He was super nice. Thanks for having us!
The only reason this isn't a total five star is that my room wreaked of weed. And I mean bad, as in set into the paint of the walls. I don't know if the cleaning lady smokes a joint while she cleans or what. The rooms are clean and perfectly redone. So it's not a cleanliness Factor. Just don't get room 227. Maybe it's only that room. But they need to fumigate it. Other than that my stay was fantastic and we were grateful for the bed. Plenty of room and very clean. Now about the staff, they are five star all the way around. On top of everything and super kind and friendly. And no they weren't stoned.
We stayed at Skipjack Resort & Marina for our 10-year anniversary trip to the Florida Keys, and we had such a great experience. From the moment we walked into the lobby, everything felt welcoming—even down to the fresh, pleasant smell at check-in. Our room was clean, spacious, and very comfortable. The staff really made our stay—they were all so kind and helpful. We accidentally left our key in our room early one morning before the lobby opened while heading out for an excursion, and they still helped us get back in quickly with no issues. Breakfast was great, and every staff member we interacted with was friendly and welcoming. Also, don’t forget to say hi to Rocky, the sweet on-site cat—she was such a fun little bonus to our stay! We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Keys
Room looked new. Super clean. Nice floors. Big shower. Spacious bathroom. Loved swimming in the pool and walking along the canal boardwalk to look at the boats. The scrambled eggs are AMAZING.
We enjoyed the resort. Activities and amenities were very nice. The breakfasts and all of the food from the Bistro were very good. However, the floors in our room were filthy. We had to wash our feet before getting in bed after walking barefoot in our room. Also, we left a day early because my brother died. I knew we would not get a refund for our reservation, but did not think we would be charged the resort fee for amenities for the day we were not there. I sent an email, but have not gotten a response.
We have been. To Skipjack several times. This time we were very disappointed. Last time we were there we heard they were making tons of improvements. We arrived and were met at front desk by a clerk who just didn't want to be helpful. No details on breakfast service which had changed. No offer of pool towels. Just not a good first impression. The food at the restaurant wasn't as good as it used to be. There are floorjacks holding up part of a building. Some fire alarms went off daily. One room on an upper floor had water pouring out off balcony. We were told the pool heater was being fixed our first day there. The pool has never been heated. One couple went to get pool towels. They were given one, told to share it and comeback later for a second towel. The final straw was my husband's earbuds died at the pool one day. The next morning we thought to charge them while we went to breakfast. We couldn't find them anywhere. We stopped in the front lobby to ask if anyone had turned them in. The clerk, same one from our checkin yelled at him for coming there 4 times to ask. He hadn't, that was right after we discovered they were missing. Meanwhile she was giving an elderly man who was trying to check in a very difficult time.poor guy was just trying to get his room he had paid for. We turned to leave lobby and she followed us out. She was yelling at me for calling her a derogatory name. I don't use that word. I did tell my husband she was a witch, but several other guests saw her accusation and later commented on her behavior. Skipjack is a tired resort, we always had great service prior. The service this time just let us know we need to spend our money elsewhere.
First time at this resort. Disappointed as the pool was not heated(heater not working and no urgency to make repairs). Our accommodations were comfortable and roomy, however the floor was filthy, left our feet black after walking around barefoot. They did make an attempt to clean it but it was still dirty. VERY small mini fridge and no icebox or freezer compartment and if you wanted ice you had to walk down to the front office and have them fill your snall bucket. The building with the majority of the rooms was situated backwards as the balcony overlooked the parking lot while the walkway with all entrances overlooked the waterway and boats. We were on the 4th floor so would have been nice to sit on that side. The restaurant was great, there was always a lively gathering at the bar area and occasional live music if that's something that you look for. Overall the property could use a face-lift. They do have some recently updated villas with full kitchens and better location on the waterway(canal) for more $$ and as we found out later, some of the units we stayed in are privately owned and have had considerable improvements that can be rented on Vacasa or Vrbo.
everything was great here. Staff friendly. Rooms clean. It was nice that the room was close to the pool and the tiki bar. Bartenders great and made really good Pina Colada and something called a Painkiller. Yummy! Pool was not heated though, which I think I read it was heated. Great place to stay. I would stay again for sure. It was really close to Sombrero Beach which was the only clean beach we found in the Keys. Most smelled from all the seaweed piled up.
Family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids ages 7 and 9). We stayed for 6 nights. The price was ok, given its Christmas and new year’s week. I would have left because of the following but there weren’t any hotels available. Definitely wouldn’t ever stay again and this is definitely not a “resort.” Most important: We all got bit at night time several times by some type of mites, likely bed bugs. The continental breakfast was fine for kids, but they constantly ran out of items. The pool was always cold. The gym had really old equipment, cardio machines didn’t work, and couldn’t borrow bikes as they always had flat tires. There was constant construction at the hotel and near the hotel. The room’s furniture was really dated, bed hard. Kids did like the sofas. Housekeeping barely came by, even after I had asked a few times. And same for a request to fix the door to the interior bedroom; never fixed despite repeated requests. The folks at the front desk were nice enough but this “resort” definitely needs safety and health inspection and improvements.
We stayed at Skipper Jack's Resort in the Keys for two nights. As we checked in, the attendants were very, very approachable, very friendly, and took care of all of our needs. As we went into our room, we had a nice view of the water channel. And also, our room was very, very nice. Bedding was nice. A lot of the room looked like it was updated. The only thing that I would say is it could need a little paint and maybe a little bit of cleaning on the couches. They were fabric. But all in all, I would highly recommend this place. The breakfast was amazing, and the poolside bar was nice. Again, I would give this a 4.75 out of 5. Again, they are in the point of remodeling, touching things up. And I think it will be a 5 sooner than later. Thank you again, staff.
