Ella’s Cottages is a highly pet-friendly and beautifully maintained property located in Old Town Key West, known for its charming gardens, cozy pool, and incredibly welcoming staff. Guests consistently praise the spotless rooms and the thoughtful details, such as individually delivered breakfast baskets and afternoon tea service. However, some visitors warn of inconsistent room cleanliness, small/compact spaces, and the presence of unexpected charges.
Excellent place to stay in Key West! They have their own parking lot! Ella’s is downtown Key West…somewhat easy to walk to sites in Key West. Service with booking, check-in, check-out, were great! Room was clean. They allow dogs! The breakfast basket in the morning was a nice touch—good food! The courtyard is a nice place to relax and get away from the busyness of Key West.
Wonderful place to stay. Staff was so kind. It is an older place, but the updates and upkeep are great. Rooms were very clean, bed and pillows were SO comfy. Location was wonderful, within walking distance of almost every activity we did. Will definitely recommend and definitely come back!
I'm torn on this hotel. The reviews and the Google photos are at odds with each other, which is why I was determined to take and post a truthful review with unbiased content and photos. We came to Key West after a 4-day music cruise. Our room at Ella's is slightly larger than a balcony room on a ship. We're really not picky travelers and prefer to leave positive reviews only, but decided to leave this honest review after puzzling over the mix of positive and negative reviews for the hotel. On the positive side, our room is very clean and it's only a block from Duval Street. The amenities of the hotel are nice - a small pool (the size of a hot tub in many hotels), free breakfast, free parking, nice lobby, etc. The bed is comfortable and the towels seem nice, there is a small fridge and nice TV, plus free wifi. The front desk staff was super nice and welcoming. On the negative side, our room smells like mice, it's very small, there's not enough room to open both our suitcases, no suitcase racks, there's no place to open and store my toiletries bag and no couch. I poured over review photos and photos on the website and I didn't really understand we were signing up for such tight quarters. Because of this, I'm sharing this honest review to help you understand what you're in for and make the decision that is best for you and your trip.
Our room is absolutely filthy after getting out of the shower and walking on the floor is my feet turned black. The floors are not being cleaned and it was very gross. The breakfast basket is the same every day. Some variety would be nice one day our basket had a cockroach running around in it, which was repulsive. The shower left much to be desired including hot water. Your place looks cute, but it seems to end there. I would not recommend Ella’s cottages based on my experience there.
Such a beautiful cottage gem. If I could, I would live here forever. The grounds are plush with greenery everywhere. The pool is quite relaxing with soft music in the background. Even encountered an Iguana! The room was tastefully decorated, comfortable bed & nice bathroom. Breakfast was delivered to the room each morning nestled in a lovely basket. All the staff is wonderful here. Dwight, at front desk, is top notch. This place is very lucky to have him!
Friendly staff and good location near Duval Street. Easy walk to restaurants and shops. Nice pool although a little small. Room was clean and spacious with small outdoor patio. Very pet friendly. Hotel has its own happy hour and continental breakfast delivery to each room. Would love to stay here again sometime in the future.
Great place to stay. Location is perfect. Rooms & Beds were lovely. Lovely breakfast basket delivered to the room each morning. Own table & chairs to sit & have breakfast under the veranda. Staff super friendly & helpful. Will stay again if we’re lucky enough to return to Key West.
Great place to stay for people who are coming to Key West to endorse Old Town Key West. Nice rooms that are well appointed and clean. Very historic design that has been modernized for easy stay. One word of caution… make sure to understand the extra charges that are applied for room stays - they are not fully transparent so you may feel like they are nickel and diming you which can be frustrating from a customer service point of view. The pool is a nice amenity with towel service at no charge. Easy walk to Duval street. The bus stop is near the front of the inn so that makes it easy if you don’t want to walk. Parking for our golf cart was $30 per day so be aware of that fee. Breakfast is brought to room each day at a charge. It’s a nice breakfast and one basket can easily last 2 days. The hotel staff is very nice and we found them to bed helpful in planning dinners and excursions. We will stay at Ella’s again the charm and friendly staff out weighs the hidden charges.
What a hidden gem, this place was amazing! Our room was comfortable and spacious, we particularly liked the patio outside our room. The location was perfect as we walked everywhere and found so many amazing spots nearby. Highly recommend this place for a stay in Key West.
Such a great experience. Our receptionist, Dante, was so accommodating and brought a relaxing air to each interaction. We felt so welcomed and at home. Enjoyed a single night and the room was perfect. The bed, we melted into it. So plush and luxurious. The pool was so gorgeous. And a small blessing was the ice and water dispenser, to rehydrate at the end of the day. I can tout enough about this place and I definitely believe this will be my go-to stay from now on. If you’re debating, then rest at ease that you’ll love your stay.
