Barnacle Bed & Breakfast receives mixed reviews, with recent guests praising the beautiful location, tranquil atmosphere, and unique wildlife encounters. However, older reviews highlight significant issues with cleanliness, AC functionality, and misrepresented property conditions. Value for money and consistent service appear to be concerns for some guests.

Went down to stay in this place with a group of friends in April. It is a perfect location with lots to do right on the property, including fishing, kayaking, beach games, biking, and hanging out by the tiki hut. We went on a trip on the marathon lady and cooked all the fish with the outdoor grill provided. It’s about 45 minutes from Key West, which is worth checking out as well. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a fun activity-packed getaway. Rooms were nice and updated as well.

Quite honestly our stay was somewhat disappointing. The AC issue was the worst thing but the other issues are surprising in view of the high price. Will not return. The AC was not working or was only putting out such minimal cooling as to be ineffective. When I received the “hope you’re settled” email I replied to this effect and received no response. I mentioned the trouble to an AC repairman on site working on another unit. He said he could not work on it. I kept hitting my leg on the protruding apparently homemade mattress baseboard. The in room “ice maker” was a joke. A few pieces the size of pencil erasers. Toilet paper holder was loose and easily came off of the wall. A bottle of wine was provided but only had coffee cups to drink it? Really? No cups for bathroom use. No counter space in the bathroom. Inconvenient. Main entry door is binding and noisy. Half circle/transome above the window needs shades or blinds to block morning light if desired. Their email asked for a review but doesn’t indicate where or how. 2 stars for the ocean view.

!!!Beware!!! This place does not look anything like the pictures show. This place is so run down and unmaintained it very sad to see. We spent two days here on the last leg of our trip. We were so sad when we pulled up and everything is trashed. There are no vending machines the kitchen area has a couple plates and forks the lounge chairs are broken. There is glass in the sand and weeds growing everywhere. The bikes the scuba gear and kayaks are all broken there is not anywhere to really do water activities and scuba the water is murky dirty that’s only a couple feet deep till you go way out there. There is garbage everywhere on the property and the dirty pond with a broken doc that is just breading mosquitoes. We got bite hundreds of times. When you get inside it seems like they were working on things to improve then all of a sudden just stopped. The bathroom shower still has open tile seems and unfinished grout. There’s paint unfinished everywhere. The bed was so freaking loud to move in at night and the ac broke at 5 am. Also there is water from your ac dripping onto your power box in the closet. There is no breakfast anymore but they don’t tell you that till after you pay and don’t give you anymore discount on price. They gave a couple coffee pods and come creamer in our room 2 towels and 1 roll of toilet paper and the kitchen area had a dirty microwave and toaster. But the very best fail is the big hole in the ceiling in our shower that goes straight into the shower of the room next to us. Yes big open hole. They can hear us and we can hear them do everything!!!!! It look so nice online but it is a dump now.oh and there is not a hot-tub! Update since response: The problem with the response is they claim the pictures are up to date when infact that’s a lie. Goto the Airbnb listing and tell me those pictures are up to date! Those are a lie it looks nothing like that now it’s super run down! The rooms might be the only pictures that are up to date! The pictures show vending machines and clean grounds so there for they are not accurate. I do not agree for the amount of money we spent to stay there it was not worth it!

We booked a 2 night stay 6 months in advance. The booking was confirmed and was paid in full. 6 weeks later we received a message to say that the booking had been cancelled at our request. I messaged the hotel and asked what had happened. It turns out that they had told Expedia that we had cancelled, They told me that they no longer had any availability so I assume that they had a better offer. Don’t book unless you have a backup plan when they cancel your booking. Only got 1 star because they were swift to refund our money.

This is an absolutely gem of a place to stay!! The location is perfect and our room was huge and stunning. It feels very quiet and peaceful, barely anyone around which makes for a very quiet stay. However, we ran out of a few amenities during our stay (toilet paper and shampoo) and they never were replaced. The communication to service staff was limited, which made it difficult for us to let the staff know what we needed. The breakfast is very light (yogurt, bagels, some ham and cheese slices, mini croissants, cereal and coffee/juice). More like a continental breakfast than a Bed & Breakfast. 10/10 would recommend!

Was such a lovey place to stay, beautiful beach and away from the regular tourist spots. They were very accommodating and it was easy to check in/out. I will be recommending this location to friends trying to get away in the Keys.

A Tranquil Paradise at Barnacle Resort B&B - The Perfect Father-Daughter Getaway My recent stay at the Barnacle Resort in Big Pine Key with my 14-year-old daughter was nothing short of idyllic. We were looking for a special place for a father-daughter trip, and Barnacle exceeded all expectations. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the sheer loveliness of the property. It's a truly special place that offers a peaceful escape and provided the perfect backdrop for quality time together. One of the highlights for us was the opportunity to explore the fascinating tide pools right on the resort grounds. It was such a unique and enjoyable experience to discover the marine life at low tide – something we both loved doing together. The resort also exuded a wonderful sense of tranquility. It was the perfect setting to unwind and reconnect. Our room was a delight – incredibly spacious, impeccably clean, and boasting both amazing views and an absolutely fantastic shower! It was clear that attention to detail was a priority, and we both felt completely comfortable and at home. The extra space was particularly appreciated. Perhaps the most magical part of our stay was the frequent sighting of the endangered Key Deer right on the property. It was such a privilege to witness these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat, and it was a truly memorable experience we shared. This trip to the Barnacle Resort was a fantastic bonding experience for my daughter and me. If you're looking for a quiet, beautiful resort in the Florida Keys with unique natural features and comfortable accommodations, and especially if you're planning a special trip with a child, I wholeheartedly recommend the Barnacle Resort. It's a gem of a place that we can't wait to visit again.
