Guests consistently praise the friendly staff and tropical pool area, noting it as a clean, no-frills option in Key Largo. However, major operational shortcomings are evident, including frequent water shutoffs, inconsistent Wi-Fi, and pervasive issues with room maintenance and cleanliness.

If you are looking for a Florida Keys getaway without breaking the bank, this is a fantastic place to stay. This isn't a fancy place by any means, but what it is is a reputable establishment with clean rooms and comfortable beds. It's not perfectly manicured like resorts that charge $500+ a night so keep your expectations in check. What it does have is a great pool area that is well maintained with two clean pools, one slightly cooler than the other (this is on purpose, to give guests of all tastes a choice) and a comfortable hot tub. The pool area is nicely landscaped with the tropical plants and trees you would expect in The Keys. The tiki bar serves simple, reasonably priced tropical drinks that taste great. The breakfast buffet is a great value and they serve delicious coffee. What makes this Holiday Inn stand out, however, is just how friendly and attentive their staff are. Everyone from the front desk to breakfast buffet service staff, to the tiki bar staff (special thanks to Donna for being such a great host) made our four night getaway memorable. If you want a no-frills, clean, comfortable place to stay that is located equal distance to all of the restaurants, shopping, and activities in Key Largo, this is the place. We'll be back for sure.

Our company reserved a conference room for the entire day and booked numerous guest rooms for employees and their spouses. Despite the size of the reservation, many of us have been waiting in the lobby since 7:00 a.m. for our rooms to be ready. During that time, we have watched two buses leave the property while those rooms remain unavailable, yet several rooms were given to walk-in guests. That is extremely frustrating for guests who have reservations and have been patiently waiting for hours. I completely understand that loyalty status may influence room assignments, but many of us are also members and feel completely ignored. When a hotel hosts a large corporate group, there should be better planning and communication. It’s disappointing to see that after feedback last year, the level of customer service still hasn’t improved.

It’s an old hotel on the main drag through town. The staff was friendly and the room was clean but if you need privacy, quiet, or wi-fi this is not the place for you. We could hear the privacy and the dog in the room next to ours. I wake early but there was not a way to get out of the room without waking my husband as the room door is right next to the beds. We could not get wi-fi in the room during our 3day stop and it was clear that was not going to change. When we asked about it at the desk we were told we could get wi-fi in the lobby.

Our stay at Holiday Inn Key Largo was extremely disappointing. Water was shut off twice during our visit. On 2/23 we received a text only after it was already off, stating it would return within an hour; it took nearly two. On 2/25 it shut off without any warning while my husband was in the shower covered in soap. There was no proactive communication and when we called the front desk (using my cell phone as the phone in room had non-functional buttons and would not dial the front desk), staff initially seemed unaware of the outage. We were told it would be restored “within two minutes”; it took over twenty. No apology or accommodation was offered for losing a basic amenity. The Wifi was also unreliable and largely unusable throughout our stay. My husband and I both needed to work remotely and ultimately could not do so from the hotel. In 2026, functional Wifi should be a given at a hotel like this. Staff was cordial but not particularly friendly or solution-oriented given the repeated issues. We understand maintenance challenges happen, but shutting off water without notice, and without meaningful acknowledgment afterward, is unacceptable. Future guests deserve to know this before booking.

Would be a 4 star if it wasn’t for our dirty outdated bathroom… but we got a room on the canal that was very specious. We got a free drink at tiki which was nice, but it took a while to get it since the bartender is also the waitress who has to go into the building to get food when people order. And sadly the mojito was worst I’ve ever had, but didn’t complain since it was free… Location on the canal happens to be right by the African Queen (see photos). Lots of pelicans and sharks there too!

TLDR; this place sucks. Longer version Pros: there was a bed in the room and the pillows are nice Cons: where do I even start? When we first walked into the room we were hit with a scent that can only be described as dirty fish tank water. The room was very scarcely decorated. There was one small bureau for clothes that had drawers literally hanging off of it, I'm attaching a photo of that. There was a small fridge with a coffee maker on top of it and a chair in the corner. There was a small TV hung on the wall not centered to anything which is also visible in one of my photos. The deadbolt on our door did not work. No for the other issues with this hotel. We are still staying at this hotel but it sucks so much that I could not even wait to finish my stay to warn other travelers. In the six days that we have been here I have gotten text alerts as early as 7 AM each day about the fact that the Wi-Fi does not work. We have received multiple text messages that the TV service does not work. You get these text messages at all hours of the day. I have yet to see the Wi-Fi work since we have been here. The cleaning staff is the rudest staff I have ever encountered in my nearly 50 years of life. Promptly at 8 AM they begin rolling their carts around and yelling to one another from across the hotel to communicate with zero regard for who may be sleeping. They close the bolts on the doors and consistently let the doors slam shut nonstop while they are cleaning rooms. That is if they clean your room. We have had more than one occasion where we have been gone for 12+ hours a day and came back to the hotel only to find it untouched. When they do clean your room they do not consistently provide new towels, replenish your coffee, or any of the other things that you would expect from a hotel. It's important to note that we were specifically told there was daily cleaning service and that if we did not want it we had to place something on the outside of our door. The walls of this hotel are so incredibly thin that you can hear absolutely every conversation in every other room surrounding you, in fact I could hear my neighbors peeing and farting in the morning. Had a long day and want a hot shower? Don't expect to get that from this hotel. If you need to sober up though you're in good shape because the lukewarm water will do just that. If you wait until after 10 PM you might be able to get a hot shower. If you think you can remedy that with a nice soak in the hot tub think again because that also is only bath water hot, if that. My advice? Book yourself a room literally anywhere else.

If I could give it 0 stars, I would. We were supposed to stay for 4 nights and only ended up staying 1 because we had such a terrible experience. All the rooms are outdoors, so it's basically a motel branded as an IHG resort. Our tub was backed up with hair so we were standing in dirty water, the bathroom had a scent like febreeze/perfume that was so strong we could taste it and were gagging, the sheets were dirty, old/worn looking room with rust all over, and there was a buzzing noise during the night. This 'resort' is overall just rundown and we didn't feel comfortable at all staying here, so much so that we even put a chair up against the door that night while we slept. We also had issues with the young female bartender who "didn't have time or energy for this" since it's the new year. She was disinterested in talking to us or taking our order (she was laughing and having a grand old time speaking Spanish with the couple there before us), she wouldn't tell us when our food was supposed to be ready and seemed annoyed when she had to call the kitchen and see how long it would take, tried to tell us we didn't tip her even though she took our money without saying a word, and overall just gave us a TERRIBLE attitude and a hard time. She was also coughing like she was sick, and took a dirty cup that had been drank out of from a customer before proceeding to make our drink and use the same dirty hands to stick our 'clean' straw inside, and the contents used to make the drinks were just sitting out on the counter instead of being refrigerated or properly stored. We ended up having to throw the drink away because we weren't comfortable drinking it. When we left this hotel the next day we requested a late checkout which the front desk confirmed more than once to us that we had, and housekeeping still came in and started moving and throwing away our belongings while we were out for the morning, and when we returned the room door was left hanging open for us (or anybody) to just walk in. Not impressed even a little bit by this property and will never stay here again. It would be better to stay somewhere around Miami and just drive to the Keys for the day instead of staying at this garbage hotel.

There is something even more dirty than the sheets at this hotel. First we noticed a hair in one of the two queen beds. This caused me to feel around on the sheets and noticed some sand. Thrn, we noticed a hair in the other bed. These were not our hairs. The next morning I talked to the front desk and she seems to care at first, but placated me by telling me that she has put in the system a credit of 10% through the third party booking company. She said this with an interesting smirk on her face. I told her that I didn't mention this for my benefit, but for theirs. As I was walking away I decided that I would call the booking company to see if what she said was true. It was not. Later, on a phone call back to them due to the booking agents requirements, she lied to me saying that the manager was out. She also lied about the 10%, stating that she had put in 20%. She can't even remember her own lies. Anyway, I've never received any credits or refunds. It's probably not wise to trust this place to do anything honorably or honestly. I can't believe that they can't even change the sheets for almost $200 a night.

Great heated pool (in Jan) and bar area. Clean. Breakfast as expected. Convenient to the African Queen and Glass bottom boat. But... no elevator to 2nd story, Marina view rooms. Hot water is hit or miss. If you have no hot water, 10% off is all you will be offered (or to be moved). Moving on the last night of a stay at dinner time is not a good option. Pretty poor customer service.

Excellent resort hotel. Very friendly staff; the room was very clean and comfortable. We ate dinner at Skippers Dockside. We started with the calamari and then had the portobello flatbread and the shrimp poboy. Everything was delicious and the service was great as well. We had the breakfast buffet in the morning before we left for Key West. Once again, everything we had at the buffet was well prepared and delicious! We are staying here again on our way back from Key West and we are very much looking forward to it!
