Playa Largo Resort & Spa consistently receives high praise for its beautiful grounds, excellent service, and overall luxurious experience. However, recent reviews highlight inconsistencies with breakfast vouchers, potential wait times for poolside service, and room maintenance issues. While many guests rave about the staff and amenities, some have experienced difficulties with pricing transparency and room conditions.
My family had to make a same-day booking with Playa Largo since the boat house we originally booked was very disappointing upon arrival. The staff at Playa Largo were so very accommodating and booked us a 1-bedroom villa on property. There were pullout beds and a rolling bed for the kids. They loved it. Our package included a European style continental breakfast. The pastries were divine. Everything was lovely, from our villa, our room attendant, the food and drinks, the service amd of course the pool!
Purchased day passes for my family and I so I cannot comment on the room. The pool and beach area were fantastic. Clean, water was impeccable and well maintained with little to no sargassum. Just about a mile of clear water! Service was incredible. Catarina H was our poolside server. She took great care of us. We overheard guests infront of us complain to the manager about her as a waitress for “slow service”. The pool area (and beach for that matter) were packed. So much so, we had to wait on towels and loungers to open. (Not a problem for us). This is not to deter anyone from booking, but I think it’s important to set realistic expectations regarding wait staff and if the goal is to get drinks/food out at a certain time, probably should hire more workers for the season vs 1 individual for half the pool. We will be back for fall break and will book here.
We came to Playa Largo to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Everything was absolutely perfect. The room was beautiful and spacious. The amenities were great too. Excellent beach and pool. The little events throughout the day were a nice touch as well. Who doesn’t love s'mores by the fire? We were on the first floor which meant we could walk out of patio straight to the beach. The trip was everything we wanted and we will absolutely be back.
Overall a good experience. I would come back but do a few things to manage expectations. I went through booking and chose the included breakfast for my group. When i checked in they saw I had the breakfast included and gave us breakfast vouchers. I didn’t read the vouchers as the checkin agent said to give them to my server. It turns out that each voucher is 100.00 a single buffet is 39.95. My group was 5 people and paid extra for 5 people so this clearly wasn’t enough. I didn’t notice this was happening until they gave me a bill for like 220 dollars with tip automatically built In. I went to the front desk to ask for clarity and they said not to worry breakfast was included. The next morning I went to breakfast and they asked for my voucher but got upset cus the dates on the cards were wrong. It turns out some of my vouchers had hand written dates and some didint. The waiter lectured me on using the cards with the right dates. The bill was around 200 again. The next morning I offered the voucher and they said they didnt need it cus they could see breakfast was included. Then the waiter asked for them. At checkout we ended up getting billed hundreds for breakfast and I had to argue with him…but he wasn’t listening… i had to even stop and ask if he was listening. He got frustrated with me and said I shouldn’t be bringing this up because I had more than one of their pineapple mojitos…which they offered me more than one of. So word of advice: make sure you have enough vouchers to cover each breakfast. Each voucher is 100.00 and that barely covers 2 with tip. Valet is also 35.00 a day. That being said. Breakfast was still wonderful and my family had a great time.
I recently stayed at this property for a business trip, which made the nightly rate much more reasonable. While I’m not sure I would personally pay the full daily rate for a leisure stay, the hotel is exceptionally well-maintained. Being a Marriott property, the stay was very convenient. A quick heads-up for fellow Marriott Gold members: because of the high volume of elite members, don't necessarily expect an upgrade. Late check-out (I was aiming for 2 PM) is strictly based on availability, and I wasn't eligible during this stay. Service at the pool bar felt a bit slow during the weekdays, though the pace picked up significantly on Friday before I checked out—it may just be the 'relaxed' island pace of the Keys. That said, my family joined me and thoroughly enjoyed the pool and amenities. Three days is about the right amount of time to spend in Key Largo. Regarding dining, the food prices on the resort are quite high, but that is to be expected for the convenience. The resort fee does include some nice perks, like bicycles, which were a great touch. I also spent a lot of time in the lobby—it’s absolutely beautiful and a perfect spot if you need to peel off and get some work done. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel for business meetings, just be prepared for the higher price point. The rooms themselves were very nice.
The rooms were nice and the amenities were fine, but I felt it was expensive and we were nickled and dimed at every turn. Who charges $20 a day for “self parking” when you are basically in the middle of nowhere? The poolside entertainment was annoyingly loud to the point that we had to retreat indoors or off the property every time he played. The resort had a very corporate “Marriott” feel and the staff were clearly coached to have a sunny outlook and fake smile pasted on at all times. We won’t be back.
How can you sincerely give a review to a place that is just so absolutely incredible that it sounds like a fake review? Playa Largo resort is laid out so beautifully that it calms the spirit and lets you take in the absolute stunning beauty of the Keys. Add in an incredible staff, fantastic food and a relaxed vibe without pretense and you’ve got the perfect stay.
This is a great resort to enjoy the stay at Cayo Largo. Fancy hotel. All the people who work here were so nice. At the front desk, at breakfast and on the beach and pool. The food is good. In restaurants could be better. The drinks at the bar are great. The experience for sunset is awesome and it’s worth to come and see it. The only thing we didn’t like in the bedrooms, every time someone in other rooms flush de toilet somehow it activated a sound in our room. Besides this.. everything was 100% perfection.
Checked in Friday. They put us in a wing set up for a wedding on Saturday. Saturday night the DJ began playing music that vibrated the room. Do better! Paying top price to relax. I will be calling corporate. Hotel only had 100 guests and has 350 rooms. Really?!? Otherwise beautiful property and location, rooms a little dated, spa was cold but service great.
10/10! Amazing. We stayed the week of Christmas and it was hands down the best vacation property we’ve ever been to. This place is so well laid out and clean from top to bottom. The staff was beyond exceptional. From valet, front desk, room services, our vow renewal coordinators, the restaurant staff and pool staff went above and beyond. And The grounds keepers work to keep this place immaculate to wake up to every morning. We cannot wait to come back next year! Thank you for the most memorable vacation.
