Cheeca Lodge & Spa consistently receives positive feedback for its beautiful property, friendly staff, and ideal location in the Florida Keys. Guests appreciate the relaxing atmosphere, excellent food and drink options, and access to various activities. However, some reviews highlight issues with spa experiences, slow service at times, and occasional maintenance concerns.
We had a great stay at Cheeca! A big part of that was Jessica Wood who made certain everything easy, handled the details, and cared (personally) that we had a great trip. What I love about Islamorada is that no matter how fast you're moving when you arrive, or how wound up you are from work, within a few hours you're operating at the speed of Islamorada. It’s a great thing. It’s hard to explain, but it’s not that far from the mainland geographically, but it feels a world away. The pace, the water, the people, the fishing—it creates separation from everyday life. Cheeca captures it perfectly. Beautiful property, great staff, excellent food and drinks, and an ideal base for exploring the Keys. Thanks again to Jessica and the entire team for a memorable stay. We'll be back.
This was the first time we stayed at this resort. We very much enjoyed our time here. Staff and service were great. The room was clean and well taken care of as was the rest of the property. The property itself is rather expansive, so be prepared for a bit of a walk if your room is near the resort entrance. There are a few restaurants on property, but we only ate lunch from the poolside menu. As for activities, you can relax on or fish off the dock, book an excursion (highly recommend Angelfish Boat Tours!), hang out at one of the pools, golf, bike around, or rent kayaks or paddleboards (not sure if they're included with the resort fee). There's also a free shuttle that will take you anywhere within a 2 mile radius, so get out there and explore the area. The beach, as is the case with most Keys beaches, is not great and will likely be full of seaweed. This is not the resorts fault, that's just how it is down there an d there's simply no controlling it. Since the beach is essentially out of the question, pool chairs at the main pool fill up fast, so you'll be waiting around if you don't claim one early. The adult's only pool looked pretty empty and much quieter, but I don't know if there's food and drink service out there. One thing to consider is that kids activities outside of Camp Cheeca are very limited, so keep this in mind if you have little ones. That being said, we will definitely return at some point!
3 Stars – Beautiful Resort, Wonderful Staff, But the Spa Day Pass Was Disappointing Cheeca Lodge & Spa is truly a beautiful property. The grounds are stunning, the resort itself feels very upscale, and the rooms are extremely nice and comfortable. The staff throughout the property were also incredibly friendly, welcoming, and accommodating, which made for a wonderful overall experience. That said, I had to give three stars specifically because of the spa experience. I purchased a day pass to use the spa and fitness facilities, and unfortunately, it was not worth the cost. The fitness center is decent, but fairly small with only a standard amount of equipment. My biggest disappointment was the men’s locker room steam room, which unfortunately does not work properly. Staff acknowledged they are aware of the issue and explained that it frequently shuts on and off and has to be reset regularly. During my visit, it would work for only about 9 minutes before shutting off completely for an hour or more. On top of that, the seal on the steam room door does not work properly, so steam leaks out regardless. Additionally, while the locker room facilities are clean and functional, they do feel somewhat dated inside. It would be a nice improvement to see the spa updated to include a sauna and a refreshed locker room experience that better matches the beauty and upscale feel of the overall resort. Again, the facilities are beautiful and the staff is incredible, and I would absolutely recommend the resort itself. However, I would not recommend purchasing a spa day pass until the steam room issues are properly addressed and repaired.
My husband and I recently visited Cheeca Lodge for a couples massage. The staff was friendly, professional, and welcoming, and we appreciated their kindness throughout our visit. Unfortunately, there were several aspects of our experience that left us disappointed. During our massage, we were offered an additional foot massage while already in the spa room. While we agreed to the upgrade, we later realized that the added service appeared to take time away from our original 50-minute massage rather than extending it. If guests are paying extra, the additional service should be in addition to the scheduled treatment time, not included within it. As a result, the last 15 minutes of our massage felt very rushed, which took away from what should have been a relaxing experience. We also spent time at the pool and found it to be less than ideal. The water had a noticeable amount of sunscreen residue and bugs floating in it. We ordered food and drinks poolside, but service was extremely slow. Our drinks took a long time to arrive, and our appetizers were mistakenly delivered to another pool area, resulting in an even longer wait. It appeared that there was only one bartender/server handling the entire pool service, which may explain the delays. While there were some positive aspects to our visit, the overall experience did not meet our expectations for a resort of this caliber. Unfortunately, we do not plan to return.
Had a wonderful stay at Cheeca Lodge & Spa, and Haydee B. at the front desk truly made the experience extra special. The amenities this resort has to offer are incredible, from the beautiful ocean views and relaxing pools to the great dining and overall atmosphere. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND their recently updated PREMIER ROOMS!!! She was so personable, welcoming, and genuinely went above and beyond to make sure our stay felt memorable. Her warmth and attentiveness set the tone for a fantastic Keys visit. Thank you, Haydee, for taking such great care of us. Can’t wait to visit again!
Cheeca Lodge was one of the best vacation places that we stayed. There were so many things that made Cheeca Lodge stand out. Before booking I spoke with Taylor Torres unbeknownst to me she is a manager. Her professionalism, warm/friendly tone was outstanding. She said let her know when we arrive, which we did and she remembered us. I can’t say enough about her. The entire staff also were above and beyond, accommodations everything we expected, but Taylor Torres is a definite asset to Cheeca. We are looking forward to returning in November. ????? Our stay at Cheeca Lodge & Spa in Islamorada was a wonderful surprise and truly exceeded expectations. We booked a suite in the main building for six people for a two-day stay, and from the moment we arrived until checkout, everything felt top-notch and seamless. Check-in set the tone immediately—we were welcomed with rosé wine, which was such a lovely touch after traveling. The staff throughout the property were warm, attentive, and professional, delivering excellent service from start to finish. The resort itself is beautiful and relaxing. The beach is gorgeous, the heated swimming pools are perfect for unwinding, and there’s so much to enjoy on site: a golf course, spa, open-air jacuzzi, and plenty of peaceful spots to sit back and soak in the atmosphere. It really captures that effortless, indulgent vacation feeling—what the Italians would call la dolce vita. Spacious accommodations, great amenities, and a calm, luxurious vibe made this stay memorable for our whole group. A true five-star experience in the Keys. We would absolutely come back.
Infested with roaches and management did not seem to care. I asked about their protocol since they were small roaches and I thought they might be bed bugs. (In the end, I don’t think they were bedbugs because the roaches were numerous and small but bigger than bedbugs so probably a different type of cockroach). They said we’ll move you to another room and have our pest control check after the room is vacant. Several roaches got INTO THE BACKPACK and there was a roach on the wall waiting in the new room. Nightmare fuel. I guess they didn’t even bother to check the new room. This was for a business trip after working 12+ hour days. Moved to a third room. Had to ask for them to wash the backpack and clothes to hopefully not bring them home. No proactive measures or solutions, I had to come up with that remedy. Absolute nightmare. I would be understanding if they handled things better. A hotel with a restaurant on the water is going to have pests. But moving to 3 rooms, having roaches in your bag and on your clothes, and having to ask for the bare minimum of washing the stuff that had roaches crawling on it because they weren’t going to do anything about it is just unacceptable. Otherwise it’s a nice property with lots to do that we wanted to return to as a family but how can you rest when there are roaches in the room and your concerns over a health hazard are not properly addressed? I’m writing this review to warn anyone staying there to thoroughly check the room before you settle in.
Went for a spa visit only. Facial was nice. However it was supposed to be 80 minutes since I was with a friend having an 80 minute treatment. The employee snippily said you booked a 50 minute caviar facial. I said I requested an 80 minute treatment and the specifics to be discussed as to what would be the best for my skin. So the treatment was definitely less than 50 minutes and a 19%gratuity was already added but we were told we could add additional. The spa is nice and my skin does look good.
We had a wonderful time. Only downside is the elevator was out of order in the building where we were supposed to stay we had to go back to the front desk for reassignment. We were given an ocean front room in the main building at no additional charges. The next morning we get a call from hotel management. The staff member who gave us the upgrade was not authorized and we had to move or pay an additional $250 per night. We packed our stuff and moved to another room but it was very far from the elevator and we asked them to do better. They tried to find other rooms for us but none were acceptable. Ultimately we were allowed to stay in the room we were given. Point being communication among staff is troubling.
