Amara Cay Resort receives mixed reviews, highlighting its beautiful grounds, convenient location, and friendly staff, while also raising concerns about inconsistent service, unexpectedly high resort fees, and issues with room readiness and advertised amenities. Recent reviews suggest a decline in service quality and a disconnect between advertised offerings and actual experiences.
Terrible experience and horrible customer service by the front desk . We will not be returning and would not recommend this hotel to anyone. From the moment we arrived, the staff had an unfriendly attitude. Before our stay, we requested a room with a bathtub, but our request was not honored. We also asked for an early check-in, explaining that I am pregnant and I needed to rest. Despite this, there was no effort to accommodate us, and our room was not ready until just five minutes before the standard check-in time. This trip was supposed to be a special babymoon for my husband and me, but the hotel made no effort to make our stay comfortable or memorable. At checkout, we were informed about the resort fee. When we asked what it included, we were told it covered amenities and a water shuttle. However, no one mentioned the water shuttle at any point during our stay or at time of check in. Had we known about it, we would have used it. It was very disappointing to find out about this benefit only as we were checking out. Overall, the lack of communication, poor customer service on the front office and failure to accommodate even simple requests made this a very disappointing experience.
Great resort with amenities here and at their sister properties that are very clean and enjoyable. The grounds were kept so clean and all of the staff were so pleasant. Lynne at the coffee station every morning was so welcoming and sweet. We had a great time on the kayaks and Moya-Kay made us feel comfortable and was very friendly. I definitely recommend this resort if you are staying in Islamorada. Also less than 2 hour drive to Key West if you wanted to do a day trip. I will note that yes, check-in time is 4pm, but we have always been able to check in at least an hour early to other hotels and this hotel was very strict and made us wait until 4. Not a complaint and I understand it takes a while to clean and check people in, but just be aware and ready for that. No hooks, counters, or areas in bathrooms to even change if you wanted to use the amenities in the meantime, though they offered us to.
DO NOT BOOK A STAY HERE. I’ve stayed at many hotels and resorts throughout the Keys, and Amara Cay Resort was one of the most disappointing experiences I’ve had. We purchased day passes to celebrate my birthday, mainly because we wanted to spend the day kayaking. Once we went to their kayak station, we were told the kayaks were unavailable due to it being “too windy.” Since kayaking was the primary reason we booked the passes, we asked if we could cancel and use the nearly $500 elsewhere. We were told no. Later in the day, when conditions appeared calmer, we asked again about kayaking and were again denied. We then planned to enjoy the beach, only to discover that the “beach” is essentially a strip of sand leading to a seawall. There is no actual beach experience to enjoy. At that point, we decided to make the best of the day by using the pool and showering the kids afterward before heading home. Unfortunately, we learned there are no guest shower facilities available. In the end, we spent almost $500 to swim in a shallow pool. The resort failed to deliver on the amenities that influenced our decision to visit, and the experience fell far short of expectations. I would not recommend a stay here, especially if you’re counting on the advertised water activities.
OK, so it always starts at check-in not only are They kind and respectful that you may have just had the longest day of your life before you checked in. A to z If you don’t pay attention, you’ll miss something. There’s so many options here.! The attention detail at the desk started my entire vacation.i will post a picture of the young lady’s who checked me in…. Next, this place has two other hotels that you can use in their collection. They have a boat that goes between the three properties. They have a shuttle that goes (booze boat! )between the three properties. They have three of the best restaurants on the island, so if you’re not staying at hotels with amenities like this , I’m not sure if you’re having the Keys experience that I did… This Property made a single traveler, Safe and seen, which is very important, parking was free very accessible… The hotel is actually old, but looks extremely modern… Let’s talk about how clean these grounds were… That’s what I’m looking for. I hope you are too. Enjoy your stay.
Staff was extremely nice and helpful. They offer a lot of complimentary amenities so make sure to check their activities schedule to maximize your experience. Not all event are offered daily. They do have fishing available from the doc which is extremely convenient. It is catch and release her. You have to go off site if you want to keep your catch. You can bring your own rod or rent one for $17-30. Location is close to restaurants so you can explore and the complimentary bikes are very nice. You can visit the other sister resorts but we personally liked Amara Cay the best.
Amara Cay Resort in Islamorada was a wonderful place to stay for our wedding weekend. The property is beautiful, clean, and perfectly located, with a relaxed Keys atmosphere that made it feel like a true getaway for us and our guests. Everything from the rooms to the pool and beach areas was well maintained and comfortable. A special thank you to their event manager, Christopher, who was incredibly helpful, thoughtful, and responsive throughout the entire process. He went above and beyond to make sure everything was taken care of and that our stay — and our guests’ experience — was smooth and enjoyable. We’re so glad we chose Amara Cay and would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting Islamorada, especially for a wedding or special event. ?
Just down for 3 days with a decent sized group. They accommodated all of us with ease and smiles. They set up a dinner for us in a wonderful, scenic venue on site. Service was top notch. Big shout out to Mr. Damien at the bar for being knowledgeable, kind and entertaining. Will go back, no questions asked. -Blue Moon
It’s literal heaven on earth. The sister locations and connectivity to them make it feel like you’re staying at multiple resorts that stretch along the keys for miles. The shuttle service makes it even better as you don’t have to worry about driving. The resorts are incredible. Breathtaking views. Amazing staff. The food is to die for. I can not recommend it enough.
Amara Cay was decent. The shared spaces were family-friendly, however, it did not feel like a resort, more like a place where people and kids waited - or just sat around. The area did not feel “exclusive” or relaxing at all. I always had this feeling that I was nearby a parking lot and noticed that I was always surrounded by others. The service in general was not that great, did not compare to the cost. Food was overpriced, for the quality. The resort is quite photogenic and maybe a great place for families, but the experience was not meant for a couple and honestly did not live up to the photos. It seemed like it was designed to be photogenic and appear like a “resort”, if this makes any sense? It lacked warmth. It felt like a budget hotel plastered with a bunch of kitch “luxury” stuff. The walk to the hotel room was not the best - walked through a white hallway, beside a bright, overpriced market, to a standard elevator, and into a very uninteresting hallway. The room itself felt like plastic wood. The fridge and phone was not working. No cleaning service the first two nights. At least there was a balcony - minus the concrete, glass guardrail, and hard furniture. It was not cozy. The quality does not compare to other hotels with resort fees (for example, Esme in Miami - more affordable, Bungalow in the Keys - slightly more expensive, etc.) Since, I have not received my deposit from Amara Cay, and it has been over ten days since I checked out. I have been trying to communicate this with them in e-mail, and, without providing any evidence that they have sent the deposit, they simply forwarded me to their reception. Unfortunately, the reception has not responded, even though I have been trying to reach them about this issue. Honestly, I did not enjoy my experience there and after. I will not return. It is honestly not worth the money and time. This experience after just confirms that I should have either stayed in Miami (more affordable) or spent a bit more money and stayed at the Bungalow.
We had an excellent stay at Amara Cay. From the moment we arrived, the service was outstanding. At the front desk, Ashley assisted us and she was absolutely incredible — extremely kind, professional, and genuinely helpful. I asked if there was any possibility of an upgrade, and she took the time to check availability and made it happen, which we truly appreciated. The room was very spacious, with two large beds, perfect for traveling with family. The hotel offers many great amenities. The heated pool is a big plus, and the breakfast was delicious. My daughters had waffles, and I ordered the croissant Benedict, which was excellent. As shown in the photos, the outdoor areas are beautiful, especially in the evening. The fire pit area is cozy and relaxing, with comfortable seating that makes it perfect to unwind at night. The grounds are very well maintained, and the atmosphere feels calm, safe, and family-friendly. They also offer kayaks and bicycles, which is fantastic. The only small suggestion I would make is to include smaller-size bikes for kids, since many families travel with children. There are outdoor games like ping pong and cornhole, and the hotel also has a lovely dock/marina, which adds to the overall charm of the property. Without a doubt, the best hotel in Islamorada. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it.
