Coconut Cay Resort & Marina consistently receives positive reviews, praised for its convenient location between Key West and Key Largo, friendly staff, and affordable pricing. While some guests note minor issues like road noise and occasional staff interactions, the overall experience is considered pleasant and relaxing, particularly due to the complimentary amenities and access to the marina and surrounding area.
This was my brides and my first time to the Keys. Coconut Cay was located perfectly between the fast paced Key West and the slower paced Key Largo with many Keys in between to explore. It was quiet, our room was perfect, with fresh towels and sheets. Service from the front desk was friendly and exceptional. Any questions we had or requests were handled immediately and to full satisfaction. The pool was a great was to loosen up before we went riding and exploring for the day or a great way to relax once we’d returned. Overall 10/10 and would be back to stay again.
If you're looking for cheaper, clean rooms, this is your spot. If you're looking for a spa day and infinity swimming pool maybe not. We didn't have much interactions with the staff but when they did they were friendly and helpful. They have a bunch of different equipment to use like bikes, etc. The AC in the room worked extremely well, I just wish it was quieter. The furniture is older but totally fine. The bed was comfortable. The shower was fine. It's very close to the highway but I guess the loud AC drowned out the traffic noise. You could definitely hear traffic pass by. It's also next to an an air strip. So if you stay at the hotel itself, you will hear planes. Navy helicopters were circling for a while too but there's a Naval base nearby as well so it can't be helped. There also weren't any open power outlets, and we didn't have the proper cables so we had to plug our phones in, in the bathroom. Again not a huge deal.
We had such a wonderful stay at Coconut Bay in Marathon during spring break with our two 10-year-old boys. It was truly everything we needed for a relaxing and fun family getaway. The room was clean, the beds were incredibly soft, and the air conditioning worked perfectly (which is a must in the Florida heat!). From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome—everyone was friendly and accommodating, especially Alex, who went above and beyond to make our stay even better. One of the things we appreciated most was the thoughtful amenities. Being able to sign out fresh beach towels each day was so convenient. Our boys had an absolute blast biking along the sidewalks, swimming in the pool, kayaking, fishing off the marina, and relaxing in the hammock. The option to borrow fishing poles was such a nice touch—we even left behind some hooks and weights for future guests to enjoy. What really stood out to us was the atmosphere. It never felt restrictive or overly “rule-heavy”—instead, it felt easygoing and welcoming, which made all the difference when traveling with kids. Everything we needed was right there at a reasonable price, and we left feeling refreshed and grateful. A huge thank you to Coconut Bay for such a memorable stay. We will absolutely be back and will be recommending it to everyone we know traveling down from Delaware!
Coconut Cay is a nice small older motel that serves Marathon, Fl. While not cheap, it is less expensive than other hotels/motels in Marathon. The rooms are spotless and well maintained. The bed was excellent. Access to the interior courtyard and pool was through a sliding door; there were chairs and a small table on a small patio at each room. Furniture is a bit dated, but perfectly fine. The staff was very helpful and professional. We had a sticky lock on the door and asked for a repair, which occurred within 10 minutes of our request. Coconut Cay provides customers access to kayaks, paddleboards and bicycles at no additional cost - a real rarity for the the Keys. I recommend it for budget conscious travelers.
Overall Coconut Cay is an excellent choice for someone wishing to stay in the Keys without the bustle of Key West while maintaining all the amenities. Stayed here with a family member as we were spearfishing in the area. Room was very clean and well put together aesthetically. Bathrooms were just what we needed; sink shower and fan. Beds were extremely comfortable with extra pillows. Rooms were cleaned daily, had new TVs and we even had a mini-fridge for cold drinks. Parking was a little bit of a challenge but not a problem. Canal in the back is a nice place to sit during sunset and smoke a cigar or eat a small lunch. Publix is close by and they just built a huge new SurfSide store. Key West is less than an hour away. Overall location is excellent, we were also upgraded at no cost. Would 100% stay here again. A no-frills, clean and safe hotel to stay at when in the Keys without spending $$$$ on a room. They also have onsite laundry for $5! Also a note, regarding the other reviews, there was No “sewage smell” anywhere on the property. We stayed there for a week and all we could smell was the salty air from the Keys. And the airport, yes, there is an airport. Not a big deal. If you have a problem with 2-3 TINY planes flying over for 10-30 seconds I suggest to stay at the Casa Marina for $1,400 a night.
Location, Location, Location! Stayed at Coconut Cay for 4 nights had a good experience. The staff were friendly and the room was spacious and clean. The only issue was I booked through Expedia and on Expedia it showed that the room I chose had a canal view when it really didn't. It was no big deal but if you are booking through a third party I suggest going on to the Coconut Cay website to check out what your room looks like and where it is located on the property. The hotel is on the Overseas Highway US1 so finding it is no problem. There plenty of free parking, just make sure you register your car and get a parking permit to hang from your mirror of leave on the dash. Location, location, location! If you want to have access to all the Keys Coconut Cay is pretty much right in the middle. Marathon is my favorite key for that reason. You are close to Bahia Honda beach and only about an hour away from Key West to the south and about an hour and 15 minutes away from Key Largo to the north. There are also many great places to visit close to the hotel. If you need coffee and breakfast Dunkin donuts is across the street. Also a few gas stations and mini markets are minutes away. In the canal located in the back of the building we saw a few Manatees and many pelicans. You could also go fishing there as well as many other spots near by. There is also a boat ramp on the property for small boats and kayaks for those wishing to go kayaking. If you have a boat on a trailer you could tie your boat on the dock. Our room looks like it was newly renovated, it was clean, it has a mini refrigerator with a freezer, a coffee maker a big screen smart televisions which was great because we used it to watch Netflix. Our room had a porch in the front with two big cottage chairs and a table, made it great for having drinks outside and great for sitting outside to have a cigarette for those who smoke. Smoking is not allowed in the rooms which is great. Also if you prefer not to use AC the windows open all the way to create a nice breeze in the room. The bed and pillows were comfortable and clean. Overall had a great experience and would definitely stay again.
It is a wonderful place and is located in a city thats nearer to the Key West, but not as expensive. Amazing restaurants and parks around. The room's AC placement felt quite distant from the bed. I think it could be inconvenient during warmer days but I was visiting during Christmas so did not have as much an issue. It is most importantly budget friendly, with free bikes and kayaks that we can use. The staff are very friendly and I would like to specially mention and appreciate Jocelyn Rochon for her support. She was so friendly, and accommodated every small need we had. Me Andy wife really had a great time here.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the room was spacious. We were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary room upgrade. There is a pond behind the property where you can see wildlife such as manatees, which creates a very relaxing atmosphere. The common areas are well maintained and include lounge chairs for guests to enjoy. Overall, the price is very reasonable and offers great value for money.
In the hub of Marathon, this little gem gives you everything you need at an affordable rate. That's astonishing for the Florida Keys. The rooms are clean, well attended and the staff is amazingand incredibly accommodating remember it's a local place, there are sometimes issues with small things but don't forget about the big things. The coffee is amazing in the lobby but you also have a Keurig in the room. The beds are amazing, pillows are extra comfy And the towels are actually bath towels lol. The pool is clean but again it's about location, location, location. Keep in mind there is an airfield right next door, if you don't enjoy aviation, this might not be the place for you and if you need ground floor you should ask because some units are upstairs. It's hard to find affordable places to stay anymore in the Keys. I am a local and really appreciate the opportunity to have a place I can get away to nearby. Thank you again to Anastasia the front desk clerk. She is friendly and attentive and so was everyone else.
Absolutely loved this place! We had a family of 8. We got 2 rooms on the bottom of the 2 story buildings. Everything was great! Room large everyone had enough space. Loved the bikes, kayaks, pool & being right on the water. Coffee was fresh and hot every morning. Office staff was very nice and helpful. Highly recommend!
